Through the blog Edlib, the CEO Teaching and Learning Resource Unit (based at the Aengus Kavanagh Centre, Mt Druitt) keeps us up to date with the latest journal articles, etc. relating to various topics. All of the resources are accessible through the TLRU.
Check out the new resources on these topics posted so far in May:
As we would well be aware, the cultural makeup of St. Michael’s grows in its diversity each year. Mindful of this, it was interesting to note recently that Edlib, the blog of the CEO Teaching and Learning Resource Unit (formerly CEO Library), had a post bringing to our attention resources available to support us in meeting the needs of Sudanese and other refugee students.
Look here for the full list. Don’t forget that the TLRU can help you in locating and accessing resources, and that all staff can borrow materials. Contact them (details on their blog) if you want more information.
This Mathematics WOW is the Maths (or should I say Math) section of the well-known Primary Games.

Don’t forget to keep an eye on the Website of the Week display in the staff room.

Our enthusiastic and dedicated Mathematics Core Learning Team offer us another WOW (Website of the Week for those who missed the subtle acronym use last time). Take some time to look around.
Thanks to the great work of Rebecca et al., this week’s Mathematics Website Of the Week is multiplication.com. Take a look around and see if there is anything you can find useful in your classroom.
This is one of the great WYD08 pictures taken by Flickr user i.say
Today marks one year to the start of the formal World Youth Day 2008 festival in Sydney. The WYD08 website may say 366 days to go, but remember that there’s a 29 Feburary between now and then!
Today the WYD Cross and Icon arrived in our Diocese, and during the week will visit our feeder high school, Patrician Brothers’ College. Our school leaders will visit and become part of its pilgrimage across Australia and the world.
The WYD08 - Journey of the Cross and Icon Blog is now also up and running, with members of the Journey Team posting on the progress and the special ways the cross is being received in, and touching the lives of those in Australia’s diverse communities. Keeping a regular track of the blog might be an interesting way for classes (especially our seniors) to become aware of this once-in-a-lifetime event.
Even some Flickr users are also snapping away when the cross comes their way, posting images up (like the one above) for all to see.
See you tomorrow, when there’s only 365 days to go. I hope you’re all ready for Term 3!
Today we uploaded a new link on the Intranet to the Echoing the Word site, to which the school now have a subscription.
The link is accessible through Staff > Teaching and Learning > Religious Education. Also there is a link to usernames and passwords in case you no longer have copy given out last week.
If you have any other suggestions of features that could be included on the Intranet, please let Robert or Nathan know.
St. Michael’s now has its loan of the Bee-bot bundle from CEO. These fun, programmable robots can help children learn position and direction, and much more. See Cherie if you’d like to borrow the bundle for use in your class - there are play mats, resources and more. Certainly our teachers have already had some fun with the bee-bots when they were on display today in the staffroom.
To find out more about the bee-bots, and how they’re being used in Parramatta Diocesan Schools, visit the Bee-Bots Downunder blog.
Teachers, have you looked at our school’s del.icio.us pages this year yet?
